Hello, my name is Valentine. I am born on April 15th,1997 in Spittal/Drau, a city in the Austrian province of Carinthia.

With 1 1/2 years I got rheumatism in the neck and in the legs, I had up to 40°C fever, nobody knew, what is happening with me. We went to see a child specialist. Dr. Wilhelm Kaulfersch and diagnosed that I suffer from child rheumatism.

Rheumatism is a severe illness with fever and pain in the joints. In the past it was a quite common disease. There might be special symptoms on the skin which might be red and the joints might be swollen.
There might be acute fever as a symptom from a „streptokokken-infection“, e.g. infection in the throat (also “Scharlach” and “Wundrose”). Sometimes there might be light infections which are not even recognized. Rheumatic fever might occur slowly or suddenly after an infection period of two to six weeks after an infection with “streptokokken”.
Rheumatism might last for several weeks or even months, sometimes years. Rheumatic fever occurs actually seldom nowadays as a result of the widespread use of antibiotics.
